James Gin Asian Parsnip
James Gin Asian Parsnip is the original gin from James Gin, the gin brand of James May. It pairs parsnip, a very English root vegetable, with the warming spices of the Indian subcontinent.
Key botanicals include parsnip, cardamom and cubeb pepper. Bottled at 40% ABV (80 proof) in a 700ml bottle.
Appearance: Warm, golden-olive with a smooth, velvety texture. The sauce’s color reflects the roasted parsnip base with bright highlights from citrus and botanical infusions. Aroma: Inviting and complex. Sweet roasted parsnip and earthy root notes rise first, layered with fresh ginger, lemongrass, and citrus peel. Herbal juniper-like hints and subtle spice (white pepper, coriander) add depth, while a touch of savory umami gently balances the sweetness. Palate: Rich, rounded, and lively. The first taste delivers natural parsnip sweetness and earthy warmth, followed by bright citrus zest and ginger heat. Mid-palate reveals layers of herbaceous botanicals reminiscent of classic gin aromatics — juniper, citrus blossom, and soft spice — with a hint of ginger and lemongrass echoing through. A subtle savory umami note adds balance and complexity. Finish: Smooth, gently warming, and lingering. Lingering sweet parsnip and citrus notes give way to soft herbal spice and a touch of ginger warmth, leaving a pleasing, balanced aftertaste that complements both savory and sweet applications.
